The Foundation uses Information Education and Communication (IEC) to sensitise its own employees as well as the community around on the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It believes that this will empower the target groups to face the reality and reduce risk of infection. Through IEC it is perceived that change in behavior and voluntary action will lead to a safer environment for living. Different mediums are used for IEC such as virtual education programs and communication through cartoons.
Communication skills are important, if youth has to take ‘informed decision’ for career building. Hence, Satyam Foundation started ‘My Future, My Choice’ to reach students from professional colleges where students are given information on HIV/AIDS along with the corporate job opportunity. It has already covered more than 75 colleges in the state of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa.
Satyam Foundation has also been working on using technology application for improvement of care and support. Pilot Biometric application for patient identification in ART center is being undertaken in the state of Andhra Pradesh. IT training is also being provided to People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) in collaboration with LEPRA Society and Cheyuta.
To involve senior management of various companies to reduce the epidemic impact at workplace, Satyam Foundation encourages other companies, especially in IT and ITES, to take initiatives in order to increase the effectiveness of the HIV workplace policy interventions.
Satyam Foundation has also conducted a research study on Youth and HIV: A Study to understand the situations under which youth succumb to peer pressure for risk behaviour.
Satyam Foundation’s partners include Andhra Pradesh State Aids Control Society, Avahan-BMCG Project partners: Alliance, HLFPPT, HLL, PSI; Plan International, Action AID, FHI, Catholic Relief Society, Features group, CII, Lanco, Rotary Club international, GMR, Care International, DC Interactive and Nrityanjanli.
